Faun & the Chypre genre

Chypre is a classical genre in perfumery with a very long history. These perfumes are deep and enigmatic: dry, woody and mossy – the central accord traditionally built around oakmoss, bergamot, patchouli and cistus labdanum resin.

Faun‘s structure is a classic Chypre with all of the traditional components, including genuine treemoss (Evernia furfuracea), a relative of oakmoss. Oakmoss is a lichen which grows on oaks, treemoss grows on pine and fir instead, and has an intensely green undergrowth scent, more earthy and leathery than oakmoss.
We have dosed it safely, as vintage dosages of these lichens can be skin irritants, and boosted it with its synthetic counterpart, Veramoss, the same exact molecule which gives these lichens their character – but without the sentitising components.

We have added resinous labdanum absolute extracted from the leafy twigs, which has a darker, woodier and more leathery character than the absolute extracted from the resin alone – these resinous facets have been enriched with four other natural resins, and its woodiness accentuated with Alaskan cedarwood, Juniper berry absolute and Cade Juniper (Juniperus oxycedrus) wood oil, plus its rectified (skin safe) tar extract to intensify the smoky facets.

A smattering of spices, ethical synthetic musks, a small but radiant floral heart and fresh citrus oils at the top round out the composition while accentuating its crepuscular character: the bright-dark, warm-cold, fresh-deep contrasts that make a Chypre perfume so compelling.

Dryad is the sibling scent to Faun – both scents have many ingredients in common, and yet a very different character.

I’m one of those people who wear perfume most days of the week. It’s just a little something that makes me feel good 😊

I went to the Duystere Markt last weekend, and was very happily surprised when I noticed that @innersanctvm.perfumes was also there! Needless to say, I had to try their fragrances in person and ended up buying my favorite out of the bunch, which is called Faun.

This is basically what I imagine walking around in an ancient forest would smell like, right before one of the gods comes to you and tells you you’re to go on an epic adventure. It’s amazing and I love it so much, so obviously I had to gush about it on here*.
